About

GYF 2020

For its first edition, the GYF aimed at bringing together young entrepreneurs and professionals from all around the world in order to offer them quality training sessions to improve their skills, knowledge and motivation. The entrepreneurship training approach was expected to lead to new solutions and recommendations, to help the attendees learn from the best practices and to foster new ideas and innovation in the field of youth and cooperative entrepreneurship.

01. YOUTH YOUTH AS KEY ACTOR OF CHANGE In recent years, young people have been facing a number of challenges, such as access to quality employment and basic services, as well as social and economic exclusion. Youth entrepreneurship can be one of the solutions to address those challenges and promote the cooperative business model, peer training and innovation to support young professionals. 02. COOPERATIVES Cooperatives strengthening youth entrepreneurship The International Co-operative Alliance defines cooperatives as people-centred enterprises owned, controlled and run by and for their members to realise their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations. Cooperatives bring people together in a democratic and equal way. Whether the members are the customers, employees, users or residents, cooperatives are democratically managed by the 'one member, one vote' rule. Therefore, cooperatives are one of the solutions to unemployment, especially for young people. 03. TRAINING Training the new generation of entrepreneurs and professionals A key way to support the new generation of young entrepreneurs and professionals is training. Entrepreneurship is a valuable skill for youth, and the more we support it through creative thinking, investment in their skills and knowledge, and in mentorship, the more our society will benefit over time. 04. INNOVATION Promote innovative thinking and tools Young entrepreneurs who have driven successful innovations in business and technology in our recent past. Businesses need to see and realize the true value in youth entrepreneurship because it is a matter of when, not if. The next generation will lead economic activity, business ecosystems, employment growth and civic engagement. 03 - 07 FEBRUARY 2020 FEATURED

About #coops4dev🌏

In March 2016, the International Co-operative Alliance entered into a partnership with the European Commission, ushering in a new phase of collaboration on strengthening the cooperative movement as development actors.

The ICA-EU partnership ( #coops4dev🌏)  aims to bring the cooperative model to the next level within international development policies and programs. It is built around activities focused on increasing visibility, enhancing advocacy, sharing capacity building, strengthening cooperative development networking, and supporting all these with evidence from exhaustive research.

Acting as partners, the regional and global offices of the ICA are driving the actions, in collaboration with members, civil society organisations, international institutions, and the EU.
