Cooperative Development Organisations take a new step in Buenos Aires

30 Oct 2018

On 25th October 2018 in the context of the V Cooperative Summit of the Americas and of the ICA-EU Partnership, Cooperative Development Organisations (CDOs) gathered around the theme of multi-stakeholder partnerships, playing a vital role in the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The morning brought together a panel of high-level representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, Civil Society as well as the Cooperative movement, to identify the significance of multi-stakeholder partnerships and the role that cooperatives can play as key actors for collective change. Cooperatives took up the engagement of closer collaboration with International Institutions and Civil Society to boost solidarity and cooperation.

The afternoon was dedicated to the International Cooperative Development Platform (ICDP), holding its second meeting since its launch in Malaysia in 2017. Acting as the thematic committee on international development within the ICA, 19 experts from Cooperative Development Organisations (CDOs) exchanged around strengthening their collaboration at international level.

Chaired by Mr Anders Lago from HSB Sweden, the participants reviewed last years’ joint activities and drafted the upcoming annual action plan, focusing on enhanced synergies and collaboration within international cooperative development actions. Main fields of intervention were identified in sharing knowledge, building joint programs and raising the profile of the cooperative model in international development processes.
