This year, humanity has faced enormous challenges. While confined to our homes, we have witnessed bad news about the pandemic, racial violence, and the effects of climate change. Lars Marcus served as the President of the International Cooperative Alliance between 1984 and 1995. A tireless advocate and defender of cooperatives, he also supported cooperative leaders in emerging democracies, helping to build an international cooperative development aid programme. Read more |

Cooperative movement pays tribute to Kwek Kok Kwong |
|
Kwek Kok Kwong, ICA Board member since 2017, passed away on 14 November at the age of 53. He was chair of the Singapore National Cooperative Federation (SNCF) and chief executive of NTUC Learning Hub Cooperative. A committed cooperator, he has been at the helm of NTUC Learning Hub Cooperative, Singapore’s largest education and training cooperative, since February 2013. Read more |

Asiapro Multi-purpose Cooperative ranks among the country’s largest and excellently managed social enterprises in the Philippines. From a pioneer workers cooperative established in 1999 by 60 members who envisioned marginaliz-sed, low-income workers enjoying the full benefits of regular employment, Asiapro (together with its affiliates) exponentially grew and became a strong collective force of 65,000 workers. |
The content of the #coops4dev website is now available in three languages: English, Spanish and French. As a project which takes place at the global level and in collaboration with the ICA’s four regional offices, the ICA-EU Partnership on international cooperative development (also known as #coops4dev) wants to show its commitment to inclusion and diversity by providing the content of the website in Spanish and French – in addition to the original English language website. Indian government boosts health cooperatives |
|
The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a financing institution under India's ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare, will support cooperatives to set up healthcare infrastructure in rural areas. The Ayushman Sahakar scheme will improve the capacity of the 52 hospitals that are already run by cooperatives. It will cover the establishment, modernisation, expansion, repairs and renovation of hospitals and other healthcare and education infrastructure. Funds will also aim to strengthen health education and build capacity in healthcare centres. Read more |

EU Green Week: common statement from EU cooperative organisations |
|
On the occasion of the 2020 European Green Week (19-22 October) the European cooperative movement welcomed this year’s theme, ‘A new beginning for people and nature,’ and released its common statement on the need to consider cooperatives as key partners for the green transition. With sustainability embedded in their business model and governance, the potential of cooperatives in the implementation of the European Green Deal is showcased together with the sectorial members of Cooperatives Europe, including CECOP, EACB, Euro Coop, Cogeca, Housing Europe and REScoop.eu.
