Cooperators worldwide had until 31 October to answer a survey on the cooperative identity – our principles and values, our cooperative difference.

World Cooperative Monitor launched during the ICETT webinar
The main findings of the 2022 edition of the World Cooperative Monitor were presented during the ICA International Cooperative Entrepreneurship Think Tank (ICETT) webinar on digitalisation and cooperative identity on 1 December. In its 11th edition, the Monitor is produced by the International Cooperative Alliance with the scientific and technical support of the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse).

Cooperatives stand together to end violence against women and girls
The ICA’s Gender Equality Committee marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November by hosting a webinar to show how cooperatives are tackling gender-based violence in their communities. Over 65 participants from around the world attended the online event, which aimed to support the UN’s campaign “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

Asunción hosts the Sixth Summit of Cooperatives of the Americas
The sixth summit of Cooperatives of the Americas brought together over 1,000 delegates to Asunción, Paraguay, to discuss the role of cooperatives in deepening democracy and rebuilding post pandemic. Held on 24-27 October, the summit featured cooperative leaders, representatives from social and solidarity economy organisations, academics and government officials.

13th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference adopts Cairo Declaration
The 13th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference (AMCC) took place on 17-20 October, in Cairo, Egypt, bringing together 249 participants from 44 countries. During the event, the Africa Cooperative Development Strategy 2023-2033 was launched. The document sets out a vision for the sector, with recommended objectives and strategies for both the movement and African states.

Leuven to host the 2023 CCR Cooperative Research Conference
Next year’s joint ICA CCR Global and European Cooperative Research Conference will take place on 10-13 July in Leuven, Belgium. Hosted by the Centre of Expertise for Cooperative Entrepreneurship (KCO KU Leuven), the conference will bring together academics, researchers, and cooperative practitioners and policy-makers to discuss the latest research and policy developments in the area of cooperative governance.

Cooperative movement present during ILO meeting of experts on decent work in the platform economy
The ILO organised a tripartite meeting of experts on decent work in the platform economy to explore the opportunities and challenges generated by the platform economy in respect of decent work. The statement made by the ICA in the opening plenary proposed the cooperative model as a viable option in the platform economy.

Cardiff welcomes young cooperators
The Young people and the future of cooperation in Europe event brought together cooperators from across Europe in Cardiff (UK), organised by Cooperatives Europe and Cwmpas, formerly known as the Wales Cooperative Centre. Through intergenerational dialogue they explored how to take the European movement into the future.

The international Cooperative Housing Symposium took place in Zurich for the second time on 22 and 23 September. Under the slogan “Growing the Movement”, 15 speakers discussed the future of cooperative housing with over 100 participants from all over the world.

Paris hosts first hybrid Global Innovation Coop Summit
Cooperators from around the world attended the Global Innovation Coop Summit in Paris on 25-26 September to discuss the movement’s role in tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges. The Summit featured plenary sessions and panel discussions on a range of topics, including climate change and energy transition, the Sustainable Development Goals, digital innovation, generational transition and leadership.

Interview with Paul Hazen, Executive Director of OCDC
On 6 October 2022, Paul Hazen was inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame - the highest honour that the United States cooperative community bestows - during a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, US. As Executive Director of the U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC), he has devoted his career to elevating the cooperative voice domestically and internationally.

ILO guide on how to use the ILO Guidelines concerning Statistics of Cooperatives
The International Labour Organization has released an information guide on the ILO Guidelines concerning Statistics of Cooperatives. Adopted in October 2018, the ILO Guidelines are the first international statistical standard on cooperatives and were developed to address the need for improved availability of statistics on cooperatives at the global level.

Cooperatives, bringing progress against poverty across the world
Cooperatives are uniquely placed to eradicate poverty and dignify people’s lives, as human-centred businesses that exist to meet the needs of their members. They subscribe to the seven cooperative principles that ensure open and voluntary membership, democratic control, autonomy and independence and concern for their community.To mark this year's 30th UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we highlighted a few cases from the regions to share how cooperatives are contributing towards the eradication of poverty.

ICA-AP roundtable: Cooperative Identity in practice and road ahead for cooperation
Participants from 18 countries joined a virtual roundtable on 21 September to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the regional committees of ICA-AP, deepen understanding of the Cooperative Identity, and encourage "Cooperation among Cooperatives", especially between cooperatives in educational institutions and consumer cooperatives. The event was organised the ICA-AP Committee on Cooperatives in Educational Institutions (ICEI), ICA-AP Committee on Consumer Cooperation and ANGKASA, Malaysia.

ICA Youth Executive Committee election results
Over 50 participants from 22 countries attended the ICA Youth Committee virtual Annual Plenary Meeting on 28 September. The meeting featured an election for the members at large of the ICA YC Executive Committee and a presentation and input session for the four-year Youth Workplan. The members at large elected were: Mabruck Ismail MPANGULE from Tanzania, Tatiana Pardo from Colombia, Cecile Jay MASANEGRA from the Philippines and Eda KAYADIBINLIOGLU from Turkey.

Promoting smart and digital agriculture: NACF-ICAO workshop held in Seoul
The Korea National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) held a workshop on “Smart and Digital Agriculture for Sustainability” on 8-12 November in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Held in collaboration with International Cooperative Agricultural Organisation (ICAO), the workshop featured some of the latter's members, who shared knowledge and experiences on digital transition. It consisted of a capacity building seminar on digitalisation and visits to the agricultural museum and the NACF Smart Agriculture Support Center.
